Walking Idlewood

I have a few non biking related photos that haven't made it onto my regular blog, but that I did want to post.
This one is from an evening walk -- the radar indicated that there was rain out over the lake. By definition I was going to be within walking distance of the house if it moved in off the water. I got home dry. Taken from the north access point -- the one closest to Tunnel Park.
This maple tree has changed a lot since it was featured on my other blog on October 8, just 5 short days ago. The deck is now littered with leaves. The COTU raked all the leaves on Saturday, and by Sunday afternoon you couldn't tell. I'm enjoying hanging out at the beach this month. It has been years since we've stayed this late into the season.

Vendredi

Aujourd'hui est vendredi. Il fait gris, ici. D'habitude il fait plus beau. Il pleut, aussi.
Today is Friday. It is dull/gray here. Usually it is nicer. It is raining, also. (So, Emily -- how did I do? Remember the standard is not fluency, but understandability. However, any and all suggestions for improvements are most welcome.)

Le Vent -- The Wind

Il y a du vent ici. (It is windy here.)Il y a trop de vent pour monter mon vélo. (It is too windy to ride my bicycle.)

Edited version: Il y a trop de vent pour aller faire un tour sur mon vélo. (It is too windy to go for a ride on my bike.)

Mon Velo et Moi

Il fait froid ici, aujourd' hui. J'ai roulé mon velo à la plage. La feuille rouge est sur le sable.
J'ai un livre. Un livre en français. Je ne sais pas pourquoi.

January Miles

Florida miles are strictly recreational -- that's been my theory for a while, and it still makes sense to me. I can't quite resist keeping track of my mileage, but I have no goals for the month. January is the only month in my bike log that has a zero next to it since I started keeping detailed records in January of 2001, the year of the first TRAM. That zero is in 2004. TOPWLH was recovering from by-pass surgery, I was working full time and we did not come to Florida that year.

My first bike ride of this year was pretty ordinary, to the beach and back. It's a cold day by Florida standards, with a high in the low 50's. Freeze advisories are out for nearly every night this week, and there is concern for the orange groves. The north wind felt chilly, but I was plenty warm enough in a base layer, sweatshirt, vest, tights, long fingered gloves and helmet liner. I still haven't figured out if it is twenty-ten or two thousand ten, but I do know that January of 2010 has some miles on record. It's a start.
